Volunteer with us

At PEAK Literacy, there’s a place for everyone. Whether you want to tutor a child, help in our office, prepare materials, or support events, we welcome your unique talents. If you care about kids, we’ll help you find a meaningful way to get involved.

Ways to Volunteer As a Tutor

At PEAK Literacy, we offer a variety of tutoring opportunities to fit different schedules, interests, and comfort levels. Whether you prefer virtual sessions from home or in-person tutoring at schools or community sites, there’s a way for everyone to make a meaningful impact.

Virtual Tutor

Tutor a student virtually from your own home in convenient, one-to-one sessions. Sessions take place four days a week for 20 minutes each day, consistently scheduled at the same time that works best for you.

School-Based Tutor

Tutor students once a week for 90 minutes during the school day at one of our partner schools. This is a great option if you're available mid-morning on weekdays.

Community Site Tutor

Tutor students once a week for 90 minutes at one of our neighborhood-based programs held in community centers or residential sites. These sessions typically take place in the late afternoon or early evening.

how to Join the PEAK Literacy volunteer team

Step 1: Attend a Volunteer Info Session

Join a 30-minute session to learn about PEAK Literacy’s mission, what we look for in a great volunteer, and how you can make an impact. It’s a no-pressure way to learn more!

Step 2: Submit a Volunteer Application

Complete our online application to tell us a bit about yourself, your availability, and your interests.

Step 3: Complete a Background Screening

To ensure the safety of the children we serve, all volunteers must complete a background check.

Step 4: Participate in Volunteer Training

Attend a virtual training session where you’ll get hands-on practice, learn how to use Great Leaps, our evidence-based reading and math tool, and feel confident before starting with a student.

Step 5: Get Matched and Start Making a Difference

We’ll match you with a student or program based on your schedule and preferences—whether it's at a school site, neighborhood program, or virtually.
